Because Life of Every Mother Counts

It is said that a woman gets completed once she become a mother, which is an inexplicably beautiful feeling but unfortunately many women die during pregnancy or at the time of child birth and what is more unfortunate is that our very own country India accounts for maximum number of maternal deaths in the world. In 2013, around 50,000 women died due to pregnancy related complications in India.

The major cause of pregnancy related deaths in India is haemorrhage, eclampsia followed by sepsis, toxaemia of pregnancy, abortions and obstructed labor. Other causes may include HIV/AIDS, pulmonary or cardiac disorders.

All these causes are curable if proper measures can be taken.

  • All women of reproductive age should ensure that they keep themselves healthy by eating a proper diet and maintaining a healthy body weight.
  • Women should be educated regarding pregnancy and its complications. Such practises are essential especially for women in rural areas where most women are unaware about health measures that need to be taken at the time of pregnancy. Education will also help create awareness regarding pregnancy complications at young age.
  • Couples should be educated about the importance of antenatal check-ups and small family norms. Documentaries in rural areas to show the importance of family planning can also help.
  • Proper training should be given to dais in the villages and other female workers so that they can help the mothers to be during their pregnancy and after child birth.
  • Regular checkups are crucial at the time of pregnancy. Consult your doctor regularly to assure a healthy pregnancy.

Women deserve to live to experience the motherhood they always dreamt of. They need not die in childbirth. All women should be given support and right information so that they can have a healthy delivery and enjoy a healthy life post- pregnancy.

A Woman can be saved , A mother can be saved, A family can be saved .
