Ways To Protect Your Skin During Winters

We all love winters for we get to wear our favorite sweaters, flaunt those expensive jackets, enjoy taking strolls with our friends on chilly evenings and the coziness of the bed is something that we long for throughout the year. But with winter season comes the biggest skin woes. Pollution levels sharply rise during winters. Skin cracks up, dries out and most of the time looks dull and hence we should be always taking extra care of our skin. Here are few simple things that you should be doing every day for a glowing winter skin:

Washing:

Make sure to wash your face with lukewarm water. Hot water baths always feel good in winters but while washing your face make sure that the water is lukewarm as this will protect your skin from getting rid of the essential oils of the skin.

Cleansing:

One of the most important skin routine is cleansing. Cleanse your face every night before stepping into your bed. I know it gets a little tough during winters because all you want to do is to get inside that cozy bed but trust me missing this important ritual can really harm your skin. While outside, our skin attracts dirt from the pollution. Pores of our skin get clogged with pollutants which make our skin dull and this may even cause acne. So never go to sleep without washing your face with a good cleanser. There are various types of face cleanser in the market for different skin types but avoid going for soap cleansers.

Exfoliation:

Scrub your skin once a week for a better looking and a healthy skin. Scrubbing removes all the impurities which get trapped inside the pores thereby preventing acne problems. Do not scrub your skin more than twice a week and while scrubbing your face do it gently for 2-3 minutes.

You may also make a natural scrub at home using grounded oats, turmeric, sandalwood, rose water. They work wonders on your skin.

Moisturize:

Another important winter ritual for skin is to moisturize your skin with a good oil based moisturizer. Moisturize your skin every time you wash your face because your moisturizer will restore all the oils in your skin and will make it look more supple and healthy. Petroleum based moisturizers should be avoided as they do not moisturize the skin from within but just coat the skin.

Sunblock:

We tend to ignore the sunblock during winters but always remember to apply a good sunblock before stepping out in the sun throughout the year. A good sunblock protects our skin from harmful UV rays. Stepping out in sun without a sunblock will make your skin dull, tanned and will also result in ageing of the skin causing wrinkles.

Lip Care:

While taking care of your skin, do not forget to pay attention to your lips because winters cause excessive dryness to the lips and trust me chapped lips are a big put off. So buy yourself a good lip-balm with SPF and apply it everyday and every night before sleeping. Also remember to apply your lip balm before you apply your lipstick specially a matte lipstick. While buying lipsticks check for the ones which have natural oils to keep your lips moisturized.

Stay Hydrated:

Drink lots and lots of water to keep your skin hydrated during winters. We tend to drink less during winters but to have a supple and healthy glowing skin drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water is a must. Also drinking lots of water will keep you lips from drying out. So always carry a bottle with you and stay hydrated.

Oil Your Skin:

Apart from face and lips we also need to pay attention to our body. After enjoying a hot steamy bath our skin starts to get dry. So after bathing apply coconut oil or oils ofshea or coco butter on your skin. Applying oil right after you have bathed will give you a moisturized skin throughout the day. Also keep a body and hand lotion with you all the time. This will help in rush hours where you don’t have time to apply oil on your body.

So get on to the above ritual and we wish you a very healthy glowing winter skin !
