8 Hair Masks That Will Help You Manage Frizzy Hair This Winters

We love winters but let’s face it, they aren’t very good when it comes to hair health. The cold just makes the hair dry, listless, frizzy and simply unmanageable. Salon treatments are too expensive so that’s out of question and simply oiling isn’t helping either. But just when you thought all hope was lost, nature comes to the rescue. Yes, it’s possible to get your smooth, frizz free tresses back with things from your kitchen cupboard. These hair masks are so simple and easy to make, that you’ll laugh at yourself for not having tried them earlier.

1. Almond oil and Eggs

If you are a victim of hair frizz, chances are your hair needs conditioning. Eggs are a great way to go about since they are rich in proteins and fat, basic hair requirement. Also almond oil is best for the winter since they are light unlike coconut oil that freezes in your hair.

To make the pack, simply whisk one egg and a tablespoon of almond oil in a bowl. Apply this mixture evenly on wet hair and keep it for about 30 minutes. Wash this off with a mild shampoo and let your hair dry naturally. Do this once a week to maintain the effects.

2. Honey and yogurt

This hair pack is easier and even less off a hassle since it saves you from bad odour (the problem with eggs). Yogurt is the best for people who have oily yet frizzy hair. While its protein content conditions, lactic acid cleanses the scalp of extra oil and grime. Honey prevents hair form drying out so that the frizz stays at a minimum for a longer period of time.

Add one part honey to two parts yogurt depending on the length of your hair and apply it evenly. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and wash off. That’s it, no frizz for a week. Make it a routine for a permanent fix.

3. Coconut milk, lemon juice, corn flour and almond oil

Frizzy and unmanageable hair will be a thing of the past with this magic mask.

For this mask, cut up a coconut and peel off the outer cover so that it only the white portion is left. Put the cut up bits in a blender with a little water and blend it into as smooth a paste as possible. Sieve this paste so that the coconut milk is extracted. Bring the milk to a boil and add the lemon juice, corn flour and almond oil. Your pack is now ready to be applied. Use a comb for this separating strands and ensuring every strand has an equal coating. Keep it on your hair for the usual 20-30 mins before washing off. You will be surprised at the softness in texture and frizz free hair that it creates.

 

4. Banana, honey, almond oil

Bananas are a great source of protein, your hair’s basic building material. Mostly, weak and thin hair strands cause the frizziness. A blend of honey, banana and almond oil is the perfect food for the hair especially in this ruthless weather. Make sure the ends are more liberally coated as this will help seal the cuticles. This is a 30 minute mask and hence a quick fix for that impossibly frizzy hair.

5. Aloe Vera gel

Most people don’t know this but aloe vera can replace cosmetic hair serums. It’s best to extract the gel from the plant itself but it is easily available in the market too. Just massage this into your hair and scalp as you would do with your regular hair oil and leave it on overnight. Wash it off the next day and there you have hair that defends puffiness and frizz for the entire day.

6. Mayonnaise, almond oil and Eggs

Next time you’re making a sandwich, save some of the mayo for a hair pack. Your hair will definitely thank you for it.

Take a quarter cup mayonnaise, a third of almond oil (Yes almond oil is a winter hair care essential) and an egg. Mix them all together to get a smooth paste without lumps. Apply this mixture to your hair one hour before washing it and any frizz that you thought was destroying your life will cease to exist. Mayonnaise is an excellent solution for dry hair as well.

7. Butter, milk, olive oil, castor oil, honey and glycerin

This long list might seem too much of a hassle but trust me, it’s worth all the energy that will go into the preparation. Heat two tablespoons of milk and start adding two tablespoons of butter, olive oil, castor oil, honey and glycerin. The heat will ensure a homogenous solution. Let this cool down for a bit, and then massage it into your scalp and hair ends while it is still warm. Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash off to get healthy lustrous hair to flaunt this winter.

8. Sugar and Water

Well, this isn’t exactly a hair mask but it just works so well to tame frizz that we had to include it. It’s kind of a hair hack really to keep those fly-away hair strands in place for the time being. If you’ve got to leave in 10 minutes and don’t have time for a mask, just dissolve some sugar in water. Take the mixture in your palm and run it over your hair. This will hold your hair in place kind of like a hair spray and save you from carrying unwanted frizz to a meeting or a last minute party.
